Volunteer With the Ontario 55+ Winter Games

Need volunteer hours? There is an opportunity to gain student volunteer hours at the Huntsville Summit Centre to be part of the crew getting ready to host the 2019, 55+ Ontario Winter Games.

There are many pre-games activities like signage, marketing, bag stuffing and equipment sorting. As well Games time March 4-8 will offer daytime and evening activities for students to gain volunteer hours.

Charity Novice/Atom Hockey Tournament.

The Knights of Columbus Charity Novice/Atom Hockey Tournament is in need of volunteer help. The tournament runs Friday March 15th @ 1 pm to Sunday March 17th @ 5 pm. Terry Fox Run Volunteers Needed

Port Sydney Turkey Dinner Volunteers Needed

Port Sydney Parks and Recreations committee is responsible for organizing the upcoming annual Port Sydney Turkey Dinner & Fireworks. They are looking for student and adult volunteers to help with the day’s events.

It will be held on September 29. Volunteers are required to help in the kitchen, the dish pit and for serving. Hours required are between 3 pm – 9 pm. They are happy to provide signed volunteer hours cards.

Summer Employment: Algonquin Park Student Ranger

Ontario Parks on the west side of Algonquin is looking for a reliable student for a Student Ranger position. Ontario Parks operates 3 interior access points and takes care of all the campsites and trails on the west side of the park.

Looking for a physically fit, strong student who is interested in working in Algonquin Park for July and August as a student Ranger.

Task include:

  •  cleaning campsites
  • clearing trails
  • assisting Park Wardens on interior trips into the Park.

The candidate will be required to do lots of paddling and portaging canoes and backpacks.

Volunteer Work: The Gamble Farm

The Gamble Farm in Port Sydney has a couple volunteer position available at the farm available:

  • Egg washer – duties include taking buckets of eggs from the coop and washing any dirt/poop off them using warm water and a scrub brush ( approx. 5 hrs available a week)
  •  Field prep – We will be planting our field in the next week and need helpers to sow seeds, plant transplants and shovel dirt ( approx. 10 hours available a week)

Volunteer Hours; Food Support: Muskoka Novel Marathon

The Muskoka Novel Marathon is looking for student volunteers to help out in the Kitchen on the weekend of July 14-16. Here are some details:

  • Dates: Saturday July 14th, Sunday July 15th, Monday July 16th (any day or time below)
  • Volunteer shift times: 8am-11am, 11am-2pm, 4pm-7pm

Duties will include:

  •  Assisting with food preparation and cooking as directed by the Kitchen manager
  • Picking up donated food from restaurants around town (if have own car but not required)
  •  Cleaning up of eating area as directed by Kitchen manager
  •  Dish washing

The Muskoka Novel Marathon is a fundraiser in support of Adult Literacy initiatives in Huntsville. Forty writers come together in a supportive environment and spend an entire weekend writing for a chance to win first prize for Best Young Adult or Adult Novel. Funds raised at the Muskoka Novel Marathon are donated to the diverse free educational programs Muskoka Literacy Services (part of YMCA of Simcoe Muskoka) and help keep the doors open to those in the community that want to overcome literacy challenges for a better life.Most recently, our funds have been used to provide Muskoka’s only English as a Second Language course, helping new Canadians from Syria and other countries settle into their new home.

Evolve Tours: Earn a Summer CGR4M credit

Interested in earning your CGR4M credit in Nicaragua this summer. Evolve Tours is offering a summer experience. The purpose of this trip is to expose students to a diverse cultural experience, allowing them to interact with a lifestyle extremely dissimilar to their current one.  Students will partake in several outdoor education pursuits, a local school project (sociology and language), obtain a level of historical awareness (archaeology) and work on a development project with locals.

The cost of this 18 day trip will be $4900.00, and includes return airfare to Nicaragua, all meals while on the trip, and all entry fees to historical and cultural exhibits. To join this trip, a $490.00 deposit is required.

Volunteers Needed for Neurofibromatosis(NF) Ontario

Neurofibromatosis Ontario is seeking student volunteers. Neurofibromatosis(NF) is a multi system disorder which causes  tumours to develop on nerves.NF Ontario is a registered non profit charity completely run by volunteers. You can find out more at www.nfon.ca

1) The Huntsville Santa Claus Parade Nov 24th at 7 pm in Huntsville and/or the Bracebridge Santa Claus Parade Dec 3rd at 1 pm. Volunteers will wear our neon green Toques and hand out brochures/cards and candy to spectators.We also need a couple of tall volunteers to be Batman and Spiderman with a Christmas theme( costumes provided). We are looking for happy, child loving volunteers to represent NF Ontario at the Parade.
2) We are also looking for volunteers to help with clerical type duties such as addressing thank you cards to donors and  stuffing envelopes for mail out and compiling lists of potential sponsors etc

5a) We are also looking for Volunteer Artists to design a fun trendy logo which NF Ontario can use in announcements and family events.
