Ontario Tech Law Essay Contest

Ontario Tech Legal Studies department, along with the Ontario Justice Education Network, has released an essay contest—with the top prize a $2,000 Ontario Tech entrance Scholarship, along with a $500 cash prize!

Short-listed candidates will be invited, along with their teachers, to participate in a hybrid interactive session with socio-legal scholars at Ontario Tech.

The essay prompt: What role is there for law reform in creating positive social change?

For example, what significance has the legalization of same sex marriage, cannabis or medical assistance in dying had in Canada? Alternatively, your essay could make the case for a legal change to address some pressing social issue. Climate justice, poverty, peacebuilding, gender equality, technology, misinformation, democracy— any contemporary challenge where you think law reform has an important role to play.

The contest is open to all students currently enrolled in CLN4U Canadian and International Law or CLU3M Understanding Canadian Law. The word count maximum, excluding footnotes, is 1,400 words.

Submissions are now open and are due by Monday, February 9 at 11:59 p.m. For more details, please view our contest poster:
