The Huntsville Festival of the Arts Scholarship Award was introduced in 1997 to foster the development of the performing arts talent in our community.
In 2024, HfA will offer both a Junior (16 & under) & Senior (17 & older) Performing Arts Scholarship.
New this year, the program will also accept applications for technical skills (ie stage management, lighting or sound design).
Eligibility Criteria for the Senior Scholarship::
- Applicant must be 17 years of age or older as of Dec 31, 2023 and exhibit exceptional talent in the performing arts or in technical studies.
- Successful audition on March 25th, at 4pm at Trinity United Church consisting of two contrasting pieces demonstrating the candidate’s performance skills plus an interview with the selection committee. In the case of technical studies applications, an interview and portfolio presentation will be required.
- Completed application form which includes:
- past performance/technical experience
- the proposed plan for the use of the funds
Eligibility for the Junior Scholarship
- Candidates must be 16 years of age or younger as of Dec 31, 2023 and exhibit exceptional talent in the performing arts (Theatre, Dance, Music) or Technical Production (Light or Sound Design, Stage Management)
- Letter of Recommendation from someone who is familiar with the candidate’s performance practice. The letter cannot come from an instructor with whom the funds may be used (i.e. an instructor/coach who the candidate is studying with).
- Successful audition on March 25th at 4pm at Trinity United Church consisting of two contrasting pieces demonstrating the candidate’s performance skills plus an interview with the selection committee. In the case of technical studies applications, an interview and portfolio presentation will be required.
- Completed nomination form by an adult (ex. family member, teacher, etc) which includes:
- statement on why the candidate is deserving of support
- past performance/study experience
- the proposed plan for the use of the funds
