About

Our school

Huntsville High School (HHS) was established in 1905 and was first built on the corner of Caroline and Centre Street where the current Huntsville Public School playground is today. HHS was relocated to where it is now in 1955. Since then, there have been two renovations – in 1980-ish the small hallway with the French classrooms and the English office was added. In 1991, the first floor was renovated, moving the main door of the school from the Brunel Street entrance by the gym, to the new first floor entrance by the cafeteria. The track and the playing field were outside this door until the town took over the space for parking and the school began to use the Lookout Track.

HHS is the secondary school for the six Trillium Lakelands District School (TLDSB) “feeder” Kindergarten to Grade 8 schools (Huntsville Public School, Spruce Glen Public School, Pine Glen Public School, Irwin Memorial Public School, Riverside Public Public School, V.K. Greer Memorial Public School), as well as St. Mary’s Catholic Public School and three smaller private schools. The school population is between 950 and 1,100 students.

HHS has six Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs – transportation, construction, health and wellness, arts and culture, hospitality, and manufacturing, with 100 students participating.

Due to the staff and their generosity of time and effort, HHS has a successful music/arts program, athletics program, robotics team, leadership council, academic extracurriculars, and many clubs and activities where students can participate and find a place to belong.

Our philosophy

At HHS we believe that education should help students develop their potential as contributing, responsible members of society, who approach their future with a positive, lifelong attitude toward learning. The intellectual, cultural, environmental, athletic, and social experience in education must encourage tolerance and self-esteem while fostering the development of the skills necessary for growth in an ever-changing world.
